The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Bible teaches that Jesus came to redeem us.  Redemption comes with much more than just forgiveness.  Jesus came to release us from the penalty of sin, heal our brokenness, restore our lives, and bless us!  Simply stated, Jesus suffered and died to save us from our sin and from death, and to change us into a “royal priesthood,” a people fit for the kingdom of God who live to do the good works He has prepared—all to His glory (1 Pet. 2:9).

Last month, “Bikers for Christ” (of which I am a member) participated in an outreach called, “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.”  As my face experienced the mighty rushing wind as I traveled atop my “steel horse” toward this event my mind contemplated that title.  Which one of those categories would I fit?  Am I the good?  Am I the bad?  Am I the ugly?  I came to the conclusion that I am each one of these and I believe each of us are if we are rigorously honest with ourselves.

We are the good because our Creator does not make junk.  We are made in the “image of God” (Genesis 1:27).  Therefore, even in the worst of mankind it can be said that there is the good.  We are the bad because we “all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).  We are ugly because “all our righteousness are as filthy rags” in comparison to God’s holiness (Isaiah 64:6).

If we ever should begin to think that we are better than someone else then we might should consider in which category we are expressing ourselves the most.  It is my hope that there is more of the good in us than the bad or the ugly.  We need to offer hope, help and healing to those who are in need.  I was once told, “You cannot offer someone else something that you do not have.”  If you have been redeemed, then you have a testimony.  One thing that you can share with someone better than anyone else is your personal testimony.  I would like to challenge you to share your testimony of how Jesus redeemed you to everyone, including the good, the bad, and the ugly!
